Luxembourg's Ministry of Culture has announced that, at its meeting of 7 November 2018, the Management Committee of UNESCO Site Management "City of Luxembourg, old districts and fortifications" took note of the opinion given on 6 November by the World Heritage Centre to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) concerning the development of "section B" of the tram which would cross the UNESCO buffer zone between Place de Bruxelles and Place de Paris in Luxembourg city.

UNESCO noted that "there is no problem with the extension of a tramway to the station whose trains do not encumber the landscape more than buses or automobiles. On the contrary, it is a progress in urban life. The International Council of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), which examined the project for the World Heritage Centre, "can only subscribe to the recommendations of the Luxembourg Commission for Co-operation with UNESCO. With the same reservations as this Committee, the Advisory Body makes no further comments on this project."

Satisfied with this response, the Management Committee will continue to closely monitor the progress of the tram project on the World Heritage site, said Simone Beck, President of the Luxembourg Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO at the end of the meeting of the Management Committee.
