On Monday 15 January 2018, Marc Hansen, Luxembourg's Minister delegate for Higher Education and Research, and Véronique Hoffeld, Chairman of the Board, and Marc Schiltz, secretary general, signed the multi-year agreement between the Luxembourg State and the National Research Fund (FNR).

In the framework of this multiannual agreement, which covers the years 2018 to 2021, the State allocations to the National Research Fund will amount to €264.41 million, an increase of 11% compared to to the multi-year agreement of 2014-2017.

These state allocations will enable the FNR to implement its three strategic objectives, namely:

· To strengthen the foundations of public research;

· To help shape the Luxembourg of tomorrow;

· To promote innovation in the organization of public research.
 
In total, the State will invest €1.44 billion in research and higher education for the period from 2018 to 2021. Financial resources made available by the state are growing by €284 million, corresponding to an increase of 25% compared to the period from 2014 to 2017.
