Glenn Miller Orchestra;

On Friday evening, the Conservatoire in Luxembourg-ville hosted a concert given by the Glenn Miller Orchestra.

Although the music maestro himself died in December 1944, his big band music lives on and the music genre, swing, has stood the test of time. With the famous “It’s Glenn Miller Time” catchphrase still ringing in our ears to the harmonious tunes of In the Mood, Pennsylvania 65000, String of Pearls, Moonlight Serenade, etc., the Glenn Miller Orchestra is conducted by Wil Salden.

Wil Salden, both in The Netherlands, formed the Glenn Miller Orchestra and started touring in 1985 - he is the official licensee of the Glenn Miller Orchestra for Europe. The big band currently comprises 16 musicians, mainly on saxaphone/clarinet, trombone and trumpet, with one on percussion, one on double bass and himself on piano, with a guest on vocals - with a number of the musicians also taking turns with the microphone as well as instrumental solos.

The audience was treated to a ccouplee of well-known Glenn Miller tunes to start off the concert, with a wide range of Glenn Miller and other tunes performed in between. With a 20-minute intermission, the second half built up to a thrilling climax, saving more well-known original tunes for last. Th audience was hugely appreciativve and showed it by a long standing ovation at the end, encouraging no less than three encores.

During the interval and after the 2-hour conceert had completd, sals of their CD "Jukebox Saturday Night" proved to be very popular.

This production was put on by Kultopolis which is also organising a series of other concerts at the Conservatoire in Luxembourg-ville, the Philharmonie in Luxembourg-Kirchberg  and at the Trifolion in Echternach.
