The "Walfettes" are the only women's rugby union team in Luxembourg; part of Walferdange Rugby Club they will be celebrating 10 years since they formed the club on Saturday 14 July in Walferdange.

They have planned a full day of festivities including a flag-rugby tournament, mixed and for all ages, followed by a wine reception and a dinner. Everyone is invited to join in the celebration including former players, new recruits, coaches, club members, supporters and children.

The Walfettes are celebrating 10 years and over 100 players who have worn the green and yellow strip. Playing in the Belgian league for 10 seasons includes two at the highest national level. This 2017/18 season saw the team maintain their place in the 2nd division finishing in 7th place. Some of the players were selected for the Luxembourg national 7s team representing their country in June at the European Championships in Zagreb.

For the next season, September 2018 to May 2019, the Walfettes are aiming to place in top three of the 2nd division in Belgium. The recruitment of new players in schools and high schools, from the age of 16, is a current top priority for the team wanting to strengthen and reshuffle the current squad.

The Walfettes train Mondays and Wednesdays from 19:30 to 21:00 at the Walferdange pitch, rue de l'Alzette L-7210.

WALFERDANGE RUGBY DE RENERT

The Walferdange Rugby Club (ASBL) was founded in 1990 under the leadership of Fernand Goldschmit. At the time, there were around 30 players lighting up the pitch by the light of their car headlights. Nearly 30 years later, the land on the edge of the Alzette is home to a women's team, a senior's team, a veteran's team and over 80 children who train as part of the rugby school.

Each year the club organises a seriesr of events including their Christmas party, a Carnival, and the Beach rugby tournament.
