Today, 23 July 2018, marked the launch of the electronic consumer service guide www.poli.guide in Luxembourg.

The Luxembourg Minister of Agriculture, Viticulture and Consumer Protection Fernand Etgen and the Director of the Center for Information Technology State (CTIE) Gilles Feith today presented the joint pilot project "Poli", a chatbot (www.poli.guide) at the service of consumers.

On the initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture, Viticulture and Consumer Protection and in close collaboration with the CTIE, the chatbot was developed as an online conversational robot called Poli (Personal Operator for users of Luxembourgish Institutions). By interacting in everyday language with its users, Poli will be able to easily guide consumers wishing to learn about their rights towards the right consumer protection information and to encourage amicable settlement of consumer disputes by directing consumers to competent mediation services.

This innovative online guidance service is intended to be a real poly-guide that responds automatically to questions from consumers and citizens thanks to its modern interface. Based on a concept of machine learning, the conversational robot will expand its knowledge base for its conversations and may take into account over time questions that, at first, it might not have been able to answer.

The Poli pilot project, which for the moment only speaks French, will initially focus on consumer rights issues in the telecommunications, trade and travel sectors. Poli.guide is part of its innovative nature in the "Digital Luxembourg" digitalisation and administrative simplification "Einfach Lëtzebuerg" strategies.
