Luxembourg city's annual Braderie is taking place on Monday 3 September 2018; this year will see the 89th annual editon of this popular discount shopping day on what is know as Kiermessmeindeg.

The Braderie is an opportunity for traders in both the old city, in and around the pedestrian zone, as well as around the Avenue de la Liberté - Luxembourg-gare area, to set up stalls on the footpaths and streets outside their shops, cafés and restaurants, with many offering special discounts on goods. In total, there will be 362 stands, including 35 food stands, 22 associations and 10 from political parties (with the general election looming).

As traffic will be barred from these areas throughout the day, diversions will be put in place, advising motorists and other road users of deviations in place. For full details, including public transport changes and car parking facilities, see Mobilitéitszentral at www.mobiliteit.lu or tel: 4796-2975 or 2465-2465.

On Monday morning, the Braderie will have two official inaugrations, at 09:30 on the Avenue de la Gare (outside the Witry-Rausch store) and at 10:45 outside the Cityshopping Info Point in the old city.

Luxembourg artist Jacques Schneider is collaborating with Luxembourg city's union of shopkeepers, the UCVL, with a series of black and white photos taken with city merchants being displayed on two large structures installed in both zones.

New this year, the Square Jan Palach (off the Place d'Armes) will be offering innovative designer and retail items from the Grand Duchy; and at the Place de Paris in the station area, food trucks will be offering various specialties from around the globe.

On the musical front, the saxophonist group Saxitude will perform during the day, and various organisations will organise competitions throughout the day.
