Luxembourg swimmers Monique Olivier, Raphaël Stacchiotti and Julien Henx will be competing in the European Championships 2018 in Glasgow and Berlin from 2-11 August.

Under the motto "The Moment", the European Championships will be premiering in Glasgow and Berlin this August. At this multisport event, the European Championships in water sports will be swimming, diving, synchronised swimming and open water swimming in parallel with the title competitions in gymnastics, rowing, cycling, triathlon, golf (all in Glasgow) and athletics (Berlin). In total, more than 4,500 athletes from 52 nations are fighting for 188 medals in both cities.

The Luxembourg Swimming Federation will be represented by Monique Olivier (SL), Raphaël Stacchiotti (SCDE) and Julien Henx (CNDu). Julie Meynen (SCDE) also qualified but she will begin her studies and training at Auburn University in early August, under new head coach Gary Taylor.

At the last European Championship 2016 in London, Raphaël Stacchiotti reached the semifinals over the 200 metres and fought in the final to reach sixth place, his best result in a long-distance European Championship. With his season best time of 2:01.30 minutes, during the World Cup in December in Rio de Janeiro, the 26-year-old came in at 21st place on the entry list.

Julien Henx, also in London in 2016, will participate in the 50m and 100m butterfly and freestyle sprints in the European Championship events. In the 100m freestyle, the 23-year-old finally wants to break the 50-second barrier.

Meanwhile, Monique Olivier will focus this year on the 200m and 400m freestyle. In April of this year, the 20-year-old set a new national record over 200m freestyle in 2:01.87.
