Luxembourg swimmer Raphael Stacchiotti has just missed his personal best time by three-hundredths of a second in the 100m breaststroke race in the European Championships in Glasgow.

Raphael Stacchiotti kicked off the swimming competitions at this year's European Championships by completing the 100m breaststroke in 1 min. 03.37 seconds, a mere three-hundredths of a second off his best time.

Nevertheless, the 26-year-old won his first heat and was satisfied with his race, commenting: "The 100-metre breaststroke was a hot swim and I felt the second 50 metres. 33.57 for the second lap is quite good and important for the 200-metre medley on Sunday." Raphael Stacchiotti finished 45th among 56 rivals.

Reigning world record holder Adam Peaty set the new championship record with the fastest time of 57.8.89 seconds.
