In a bid to become more environmentally friendly, KPMG Luxembourg has acquired three electric vehicles from car manufacturer Renault to be used by employees at the workplace.
"We are aware that as a company we have a reponsibility to be more environmentally friendly, this is an integral part of our values and goals," commented Georges Bock, Managing Partner at KPMG. "If we do not apply ourselves to measures to reduce our energy footprint, we can not be credible when we advise our clients in their sustainability approach".
As Partner, Sector Head Automotive Louis Thomas explained, the firm has implemented a mobility policy for several years, in particularly since the group moved to the Kirchberg district.
"In one year, we reduced our parking spaces by 58%, partly because we were limited in the amount of parking planned for our building and our willingness to consider the mobility of our employees - a large part comes from 3 neighbouring countries excluding travel for our customers," stated Louis Thomas. "We therefore decided to reduce our footprint by offering alternative transport solutions. We're offering our employees 3 electric cars which they can use in the workplace. Nearly 6 charging terminals are exist on our site - our clients if they also have this type of vehicle can recharge their batteries with us!"
Renault was selected as the manufacturer to provide these electric cars to the firm, with Frédéric Maillard, Director of Renault Luxembourg, stating: "We are particularly proud to be the provider to KPMG in the acquisition of its electric cars. Renault Zoé is a vehicle particularly suitable for this type of use thanks to its versatility and autonomy. The electric cars form an integral part of the Renault/Nissan alliance strategy, world number 1 in sales of Zero Emission vehicles. In Luxembourg, despite the cessation of governmental aid in 2015, we are maintatining our 'Z.E.' offensive with attractive offers for both Private Clients as well as Enterprises and Local Authorities".
"Having the right vehicle at the right time is a concern which should be taken into account by mobility service providers," continues Pierre-Yves Meert, Marketing and Innovation Manager of ALD Automotive. "At ALD Automotive, this is an objective we set ourselves in the development of our service offering. Innovations on car-sharing and the switch are examples."
Karl Chisman, Facilities Director at KPMG, added: "Besides that, we also developed a mobility plan in which we encourage employees to use public transport (bus, trains and soon tram!) via the MPass available for all, we noted an increase in use of 512% compared to 2013. We have also gradually reduced the CO2 emissions of our fleet of company cars by 24% in the last seven years."
KPMG also developped a BREEAM certification of the building in keeping with the KPMG Global Green Initiative which aims to reduce the global carbon footprint of the company by 15% for 2015.
