On Tuesday, Luxembourg's Mandy Minella lost her first round match in the Women's singles championship at the Brasil Tennis Cup in Florianopolis, Brazil.
The 216th ranked Luxembourg tennis professional put in a spirited performance but was not enough to defeat her 115th ranked opponent, Bethanie Mattek-Sands (US), 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. The Luxembourger was leading 4-1, 15-0 in the third set but allowed her opponent to win 20 of the next 22 points to seal victory in a match that lasted two hours and eight minutes.
Mandy Minella is still in the Womens Doubles Championship, however, alongside playing partner Tita Torro-Flor (ESP), as #1 seeds. They play their quarter final match on Wednesday against Gabriela Ce (Bra) and Andrea Gamiz (Ven).
