On Friday evening, Casino2000 in Mondorf-les-Bains celebrated its 35th anniversary with a concert by German singer Helmut Lotti in the Chapito event hall in front of 700+ people.

Beforehand, a VIP reception was held to which a number of people were invited and at which the formal part of the celebrations were held. Werner Wickerm President of the Board of Casino2000, and Guido Berghmans, Director General, in addition to the Mayor of Mondorf-les-Bains, addressed the invitees, reflecting on the past 35 years and looking forward to the future.

Its service offering is based around four pillars: casino, gastronomy, hotel and events. The three restaurants (Purple Lounge (160 covers), La Manège, Les Roses) are profitable, yet the events are still evolving: until now the venue has primarily focussed on French artists but they are now starting to use London agencies for more international acts. Together, the gastronomy and events brought in €7 million revenue last year.

The 4-star hotel offers 28 rooms and 3 suites.

With over 340 slot machines, the casino brought in €39.3 million last year. Looking forward, the casino plans to continue investing in new machines and has other games such as poker and blackjack, in addition to roulette.

Casino2000 has seen two major expansions, between 1999 and 2014, with €68 million invested in total. Npw covering 10,000 m2, there is still another 25% of that area again awaiting development which could increase the service offering even more. The last expansion saw the Chapito events centre born, a venue that can accommodate up to 2,100 people, alternatively up to 1,000 people for a dinner.

It is one of the largest employers in the region, with a total of 207 staff on its payroll.

Back to Friday evening's entertainment: Helmut Lotti entertained the Chapito audience with 90 minutes of song. Launching with Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody, he performed some Beatles and Elvis numbers, Mac the Knife and other big band songs - all with the help of an 18-piece orchestra and 4 backing singers. He also promised to return to Casino2000 in the not-too-distant future, an event that will be one not to be missed!

Its 35th anniversary celebrations continue during the coming week (from Friday 27 April) with entertainment from the likes of Claudia Tagbo, Shy'm and Pascal Légitimus.

The entire evening was held in true Luxembourgish multi-lingual style, with speeches in German, French and Luxembourgish, and the entertainment also in other languages including Italian and Russian...
