On Friday evening, the Brasserie Victor Hugo in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg was the venue of WeOrganize.lu’s latest culinary and cultural evening.

Since its launch, Mary-Rose De Vries has run with a number of different format events, with artisanal craft fairs proving to be very popular, and also a number of charity events, but on Friday evening it was a return to the tried-and-trusted culinary-cultural format, with Indonesia the country of focus. The venue was sold out, with almost 60 people of all nationalities and languages congregating for the evening which featured a buffet specially selected and prepared for the evening by chef Ion Indrasti who provides tailored catering to both private and corporate clients.

During the balmy evening, with many people enjoying the outdoor/terrace, the starters and soup, as well as the desserts later on, were served to the tables with a main course buffet spread of a rice table offering a selection of typical Indonesian dishes, catering to a wide array of tastes. Serving on banana leaves, albeit with paper plates underneath, it added to the authentic feel to the evening.

Chronicle.lu got the chance to talk with chef Ion Indrasti who explained that, like its name would infer, Indonesian cuisine is very much influenced by Indian cuisine, as well as Chinese. She also explained that the cuisine differs from all other Asian cuisine due primarily to the different ingredients used in preparing Indonesian dishes. She also told of her studying in Sydney for her MBA, then travelling to North America where she worked in both Canada and then Texas where she learnt a lot about other cuisines. Then she moved to Belgium and ultimately Luxembourg where she has applied her cuisine skills to creating memorable experiences for both corporate and private clients.

A live 3-piece band, Ramiro Pupo Gonzalez, performed jazz and easy-listening tunes and songs throughout the evening, keeping the guests entertained throughout.
After the meal, the evening included a tombola offering many prizes, including bottles of crémant and champagne, wellness sessions and hand-made scarves, with proceeds going towards animal shelters in both Greece and Romania.
