The University of Luxembourg is searching for volunteers to host newly-arrived students and researchers in its “Wine and Dine” event this October.

On 7 October 2018, Luxembourgish families will invite new members of the University of Luxembourg for lunch, show them around ‘their’ Luxembourg and spend the day together. The fresh arrivals have the opportunity to ask their hosts questions on the culture, customs and peculiarities of the Grand Duchy.

The scheme is aimed at helping the students to quickly get acquainted to their host country and immediately feel at home. The University rector Stéphane Pallage commented: “We believe the event is a great opportunity for Luxembourg and its citizens to show their hospitality and introduce our new guests to the country. At the same time, hosts benefit from an international experience and hopefully stimulating moments.”

The “Wine and Dine” event is a joint initiative of the University and the cities of Esch-sur-Alzette and Luxembourg. Georges Mischo, the Mayor of Esch-sur-Alzette, added: “I firmly believe that this initiative will not only help promote social cohesion in our city but will also make the activities happening within the City of Science more tangible for the whole population”.

Anyone interested in becoming a “Wine and Dine” host should visit the information stand on 21 September from 09:00-12:00 at the market in Esch-sur-Alzette or on 22 September from 09:00-16:00 in the Grand-Rue in Luxembourg. Potential hosts can also send an email to wineanddine@uni.lu or call +352 46 66 44-6562 before 3 October 2018.
