The Luxembourg Durgotsav Association (LuxUtsav) has announced that it is organising the fifth anniversary edition of its Durga Puja celebrations from Friday 20 to Tuesday 24 October 2023 at Sall Um Duerf in Itzig (3 Rue de Hesperange, L-5959).

For the past five years, the LuxUtsav non-profit organisation has been organising Durga Puja celebrations in Luxembourg. As the organisers explained, Durga Puja is a major Hindu festival that celebrates the goddess Durga's triumph over the buffalo demon Mahishasura.

For this special anniversary edition, LuxUtsav is promising four fun-filled days, allowing attendees to sample flavourful Indian street food and enjoy live musical and dance performances. Skits (comedy sketches) performed in Bengali and Hindi are also on the agenda.

Speaking to Chronicle.lu about the food aspect, Solanki Banerjee, head of the food committee, said: "Our main priority is sharing the incredible diversity of Indian cuisine with the people of Luxembourg in an authentic way. We want attendees to truly broaden their palate and experience what makes Indian food so special. Our tireless efforts go into offering that gift of new flavours and culinary insight. This festival is a labour of love for all of us and we could not be more delighted to welcome people of all backgrounds to taste the myriad delights of Indian cooking."

This year, LuxUtsav has developed an exhibition dedicated to Chandrayaan-3, paying tribute to Indian ingenuity and advancements in space exploration. This exhibition uses illuminated scale models and interactive displays to showcase India's successful lunar mission.

The organisers added that they will decorate the venue hall with recycled materials to promote sustainability.

As the organisers explained, the LuxUtsav Durga Puja festival "aims to immerse visitors in Indian traditions and bring people together for an unforgettable cross-cultural experience". People of all backgrounds are invited to join Luxembourg's Indian community in honouring old traditions and creating new ones at this year's festivities. Entry is free of charge.
