Listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, these labyrinthine underground galleries cut into the rock are unique in the world and testify to the legendary fortress city's past. From 30 March to 16 September 2018, guided guided tours are organised three times a day. In 2017, a total of 136,037 visitors saw over the Bock Casemates, making this site the top tourist attraction in the capital.
The Bock Casemates were first set up by the Austrians in 1745/46. They reinforced the defense system of the citadel and formed part of an extraordinary network of 23km of underground galleries excavated over several floors and up to 40m deep. The 60-metre long gallery gives access to cannon chambers that offer extraordinary views of the city. The 47m well of the castle plunges the visitor into the mythical Luxembourg. The Bock Casemates could house a garrison of 1,200 soldiers with their equipment and about fifty guns.
