The largest outdoor funfair in the Greater Region, Luxembourg's 677th Schueberfouer, was officially opned on Wednesday evening by the Mayor of Luxembourg city, Lydia Polfer.

Located on the Glacis, the event has its origins in a sheep fair, thus the traditional procession of a handful of sheep on the opening day.

The current format fair was founded in 1340 by Jang de Blannen (John the Blind) and is a traditional folk fair, with rollercoasters, a giant ferris wheel, other fun attractions and lots of traditional Luxembourgish specialties.

The fair will last until 11 September 2017; during this period, around 2 million visitors are expected, many from the Greater Region.

This year, the spac aaialbee to the event is slightly reduced, due to the ongoing works for the LuxTram project - 4.54 hectares this year compared to 4.61 hectares last year.

The rides and attractions start daily at 14:00 and end at 01:00 on week-days and 02:00 on week-ends. As well as the 80 fairground attractions, there are also 80 stalls along the Allée Schaeffer. New this year are the « Jules Verne Tower », « Laser Pix », « Big Splash Surf Tiki », « Musikexpress », « Fuzzy’s Lachsaloon », « Toboggan Géant XXL », « Ring Renner » and « Mais Man ».
