Jan De Nul Group’s offshore jack-up vessel Vole au vent has installed the very last blade of the last wind turbine at the Tahkoluoto offshore wind farm in Finland.

“The installation team did a fantastic safe and efficient job! We installed all ten 4.2 MW turbines within the contractual time frame” said Peter De Pooter, Manager Offshore Renewables at Jan De Nul Group. The first phase of the construction of the wind farm was completed already in 2016. The second phase started in April 2017 and was, thus, successfully completed. The Vole au vent will soon demobilise and start preparations for her next project in Blyth (UK).

Tahkoluoto offshore wind farm in Finland

In 2016, wind power producer Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy chose Jan De Nul NV, member of Jan De Nul Group, as the main contractor of marine construction for the new offshore wind farm in Tahkoluoto, Finland.

The construction of the wind farm started in April 2016 with seabed preparations for the foundation and cable installation. The works resumed in April 2017. The Vole au vent successfully completed the installation of the 10 gravity based foundations early June.

The Tahkoluoto offshore wind farm was constructed by five international suppliers: Siemens, Technip, ABB, Prysmian, and Jan De Nul NV. The world’s first offshore wind farm designed for icy conditions has ten 4.2 MW turbines and will be ready for commercial operation in September 2017.

Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy is a Finnish wind power producer and developer with three existing wind farms, and two wind farms currently under construction. It is owned by eight city energy companies: Helen (Oy Mankala Ab), Jyväskylän Energia, Lahti Energia, Lappeenrannan Energia, Pori Energia, Tampereen Sähkölaitos, Turku Energia, and Vantaan Energia
