LAR hangar plus Learjets;

Luxembourg Air Rescue (LAR) has announced that it has renewed its French contract for the transport of organs for a period of five years.

This news confirms the level of excellence of LAR in organ transport: for the second time in a row and in the face of strong competition, the LAR group has won the call for tenders published at European level, covering the French territory, of this vital activity.

The LAR group, active in organ transport since 2007, had already won the tender five years ago, becoming, together with its long-time French partner, the exclusive organ transporter for the all transplantation centres in France, with the exception of Paris.

The LAR Control Centre assists the French Biomedicine Agency in its decision-making process. For LAR, a typical mission includes the transport of a transplant team to a collection site by medical aircraft, as well as the return to the hospital of the recipient.

The logistical effort required for organ transport is important and extremely demanding. Several parameters such as weather, air traffic control, flight times and the length of runways at the airport are essential. Every minute counts because the preservation of certain organs is dependent on very short deadlines. The "ischemic time", i.e. the duration during which the organs are not supplied with blood, must be as short as possible. The medical and aeronautical expertise of the LAR staff ensures delivery of the organ, from the donor to the recipient, in optimal conditions. Thus, speed and efficiency are assured.

With the exception of Paris, 1,600 cases from 67 hospitals in France (including about 20 transplant centres) are sent each year by the Biomedicine Agency to the LAR Control Centre, which gives rise to 800 flight missions per year. The LAR group thus contributes every day to saving an average of two lives in France.
