The Luxair Group has issued a press release in which it stated that its air operations during the weekend were heavily impacted by several unexpected external events which affected some flights for both Luxair and LuxairTours.

- On Saturday 9 June, 47 Luxair / LuxairTours flights were delayed for an accumulated total of more than 80 hours and affecting 4,100 passengers.

- On Sunday, 10 June, 45 Luxair / LuxairTours flights were delayed, 2 had to be cancelled, for an accumulated total of more than 53 hours and affecting 4,200 passengers.

Early on Saturday afternoon, Luxembourg airport had to be temporarily closed due to damage to the runway. During the repairs, many flights on arrival and departure had to be delayed, deflected or cancelled. This unforeseen situation again had a major impact on the operations of Sunday, a day that was further deteriorated due to a strike of air traffic controllers in France and a plane struck by lightning that had to be immobilised during the day for routine checks.

The Luxair Group stated that managing such a scenario requires the mobilisation of a multitude of departments and resources. Thanks to the intervention of a special crisis management unit, Luxair was able to maintain its traffic and continue to operate flights despite significant delays and isolated cancellations.

Crisis management is done at two levels at LuxairGroup, in part to ensure the organisation and maintenance of operations, and secondly to ensure optimal support for customers seeking support and information.

"Although our procedures provide for an immediate strengthening of our Customer Service Center in such situations, the waves and peaks of calls could not be handled as we would have liked. Also, we apologise to our passengers who were unable to reach us within a reasonable time. Luxair and LuxairTours would like to thank their passengers for the patience and understanding they have shown during this unusual episode."

The statement concluded by confirming that operations have stabilised and returned to normal today.
