On Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 September 2017, almost 12,000 members of the public attended the LuxTram Open Days event in advance of its scheduled opening on 10 Decembber.

The official opening took place on Saturday in the presence of François Bausch, Luxembourg's Minister for Sustainable Development and Infrastructure, Lydie Polfer, Mayor of the Ville de Luxembourg, and Sam Tanson, Alderman of the Ville de Luxembourg.

During the two days, visitors were eager to be among the first to board the tram at the new Tramsschapp site in Kirchberg. Here, in the heart of the operation of the new tram network, Luxtram teams also opened the doors of their workshops and presented their daily activities. A free shuttle service was offered thanks to the participation of the main mobility actors, who were also present on the site with information stands.

The programme included music, on Sunday, with the Tramsmusek hosting an afternoon concert with the trio "Demuth, Reis, Wiltgen"; pianist Michel Reis is known as a Luxembourg composer  whose composition will accompany the sound announcements at tram stations from 10 December.
