On Monday 14 September 2015, the Belval Campus of the University of Luxembourg in Esch-sur-Alzette will open its doors to students for the first day of the 2015/16 Winter Semester.

Over 2,200 students will be arriving to begin their studies in the 23 degree courses and training programmes offered by the Faculty of Language and Literature, Humanities, Arts and Education (FLSHASE), who have now almost finished their move to Luxembourg's new site for research and innovation.

Between 14 and 19 September 2015, all three campuses of the University will host events including meetings, concerts, sporting events and parties, with this year marking the first full Welcome Week for freshers and all other students, organised by the Office of Student Life.

On Monday morning, students and employees, together with the Mayors of Esch-sur-Alzette and Sanem, will convene at the new 'Maison du Savoir' teaching and administration building for a welcoming session and breakfast held by President of the University Rainer Klump.

This will be followed by a garden party in the 'Park um Belval', hosted by the students themselves, before a Luxembourgish public concert on Wednesday at the Limpertsberg Campus and Kirchberg karaoke and kicker competitions on the Thursday. On 18 September uni.lu students will be invited to a meet and greet at the Rockhal, before the general public is invited to the Belval Campus Invasion Party from 21:00. A sports day will take place on Saturday 19 September, and will provide games of beach volleyball and football, street basketball and extreme bumper ball matches.
The University of Luxembourg was founded in 2003 as a multilingual international research institute, and has since continued to expand. During summer 2015, the University administration began transferring from the Luxembourg City campus to Belval, which now has around 830 University employees working, and already around 200 students living, at the site.

Transport to the new site has been facilitated with the introduction of four new bus routes for people commuting from border regions and the extension of current TICE bus routes. A shuttle service has also been established for travelling between the campuses.
