From 3 to 12 November 2015, the Geophysics Laboratory of the University of Luxembourg and the European Association of National Metrology Institutes (EURAMET) will be holding their first European comparison of absolute gravimeters in the new Engineering Testing Halls of Belval Campus.
The official opening will take place at 14:30 on Wednesday 4 November, whereby welcome speeches will be followed by a short presentation and a visit of the new building.
More than 40 scientists from 15 countries are due to participate in this in-depth look at absolute gravimeters, sophisticated instruments which enable the measurement of local and instantaneous gravity. There are currently around 50 of these instruments across the world which must be regularly compared with one another to ensure their proper operation.
The event will take place at the University of Luxembourg, in the “Halle d’essais des ingénieurs”, Belval Campus (Avenue des Hauts Fourneaux/Avenue des Sidérurgistes, Esch-sur-Alzette). Contact Olivier Francis at +352 46 66 44 6264 or olivier.francis@uni.lu for more information.
