The Luxembourg unemployment rate has fallen by 7.7% over the past year, bringing the current seasonally adjusted rate calculated by Statec to 5.4%.

The number of active resident jobseekers registered with the ADEM unemployment agency fell to 14,582 as of 30 September 2018. The drop, which represents a decrease of 1,208 people over one year, has particularly benefitted jobseekers under the age of 30 (-15.5%) and low-skilled jobseekers (-9.3%). Meanwhile, the number of long-term unemployment has decreased by 6.9%, as well as the number of jobseekers who have the status of disabled employee or employee with reduced work capacity. 

Similarly, the number of beneficiaries of employment benefits in Luxembourg fell by 6.4% (or 324 people) to 4,704 in one year (end-September 2017 to end-September 2018).

Finally, during the month of September 2018, employers reported 3,234 job vacancies at ADEM, which equates to 60 fewer positions or 1.8% less than in September 2017. The number of vacant posts available at the end of the month was 7,368.
