The Luxembourg unemployment rate has fallen by 6.1% over the past year, bringing the current seasonally adjusted rate calculated by Statec to 5.3%.

The number of active resident jobseekers registered with the ADEM unemployment agency fell to 14,773 as of 31 October 2018. The drop, which represents a decrease of 962 people, or 6.1%, over one year has particularly benefitted jobseekers under the age of 30 (-11.4%) and low-skilled jobseekers (-7.9%). Meanwhile, the number of long-term unemployment has decreased by 4.7%, as well as the number of jobseekers who have the status of disabled employee or employee with reduced work capacity, which decreased by 7.3%.

Similarly, the total number of beneficiaries of employment benefits in Luxembourg was 4,845 at the end of October. Over a year, this represents a drop of 264 people, or 6.6%.

During the month of October 2018, employers reported 3,814 job vacancies to the ADEM, which equates to 60 fewer posts or 1.8% less than in October 2017. At the end of the month, 7,916 vacancies remained available.

Finally, as of 31 October 2018, 34 job seekers are preparing a project to create or take over a business, as provided for by article 521-9 of the Labour Code. This is a new provision that allows ADEM to exempt, under certain conditions and for a limited period of time, jobseekers concerned by the obligation to accept any suitable job.
