The Luxembourg unemployment rate has fallen by 8.6% over the past year, bringing the current seasonally adjusted rate calculated by Statec to 5.2%.

The number of active resident jobseekers registered with the ADEM unemployment agency fell to 14,408 as of 30 November 2018. The drop, which represents a decrease of 1,352 people, or 8.6%, over one year has particularly benefitted jobseekers under the age of 30 (-13.9%) and low-skilled jobseekers (-8.5%). Similarly, the number of long-term unemployment has decreased by 5.3%, as well as the number of jobseekers who have the status of disabled employee or employee with reduced work capacity, which decreased by 7.7%.

Meanwhile, the total number of beneficiaries of employment benefits in Luxembourg was 4,284 at the end of November. Over a year, this represents a drop of 85 people, or 1.9%. It should be noted that people benefiting from an activity of professional insertion, organised by the National Service of Social Action (SNAS), no longer appear in ADEM statistics, since, as of 1 January 2019, they will be exclusively considered by the National Office for Social Inclusion (ONIS).

During the month of November 2018, employers reported 3,136 vacancies at ADEM, which equates to 344 (12.3%) more posts than in November 2017. At the end of the month, 7,497 vacancies remained available.
