The Luxembourg unemployment rate has fallen by 6.8% over the past year, bringing the current seasonally adjusted rate calculated by Statec to 5.2%.

The number of active resident jobseekers registered with the ADEM unemployment agency amounted to 15,508 as of 28 February 2019. Over one year, this represents a decrease of 1,134 persons, or 6.8%. Compared with January 2019, however, the number of resident jobseekers increased by 351.

Such an increase is unusual, as seasonal variations mean that the number of jobseekers usually drops between January and February. It can be explained by the registration of beneficiaries of the Social Inclusion Income (REVIS), following the entry into force of the new law in this area.

Nevertheless, the number of active non-resident jobseekers registered with the ADEM was 2,672 at the end of February 2019, a decrease of 2.2% compared to February 2018.

During the month of February 2019, the ADEM opened 2,521 new applications from resident jobseekers, an increase of 26% compared to February 2018.
In addition, 614 new applications from non-resident jobseekers were opened, which represents an increase of 115% from February 2018.

Meanwhile, the total number of beneficiaries of employment benefits in Luxembourg was 4,307 at the end of February 2019. Over one year, this represents a drop of 42 people, or 1.0%.

During the month of February 2019, employers reported 3,236 vacancies to the ADEM, which equated to 115 or 3.7% more posts than in February 2018.
