The Greek musical Erotokritos by Dimitris Maramis will be performed on Sunday 4 March 2018 at 2000 in the form of a concert in the Salle Robert Krieps in the Abbaye de Neumunster in Luxembourg-Grund.

Organised by the Greek Community of Luxembourg with the support of Neumünster, this performance is based on the literary masterpiece of the Cretan Renaissance written by Vitsentzos Cornaros. Composed on order of the National Lyric Scene (SLN) of Greece, Erotocritos inaugurated as the first production the activity of the Alternative Scene of the SLN with the Niarchos Foundation. The premiere took place on 15 September at the famous Herodeion theatre in Athens and, besides being sold-out, the musical was the subject of rave reviews. A tour to the largest cities of Greece was subsequently undertaken with enormous success.,

By setting the contemporary melody to the literary masterpiece of the Hellenic Renaissance, Dimitris Maramis brings a familiar musical vocabulary, with sounds of blues and jazz, married to the Cretan musical tradition. This particular work focuses mainly on the timeless elements of Erotocritos and Aretoussa's erotic saga, such as friendship, desire, sickness, and the power of erotic commitment to life reversals.

Erotocritos is a romantic epic composed by the Cretan poet Vitsentzos Cornaros in the Cretan language at the beginning of the 17th century. It consists of 10,012 lines of fifteen syllables. It tells the love of two young people, Erotocritos and Aretoussa on a theme similar to "Romeo and Juliet", but with a "happy ending".
