On Wednesday 5 August 2026, the Luxembourg Veterinary and Food Administration (ALVA) announced the recall of Grand Frais brand Sliced octopus pesto rosso (Emincés de poulpe pesto rosso), due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes.
The following product has been recalled from various points of sale in Luxembourg: Grand Frais Emincés de poulpe pesto rosso; with the lot number: 260727 and use-by date: 6 August 2026.
According to the ALVA, the risk level has been classified as “orange”, indicating a moderate danger. Consumers who have purchased the affected product are strongly advised not to consume it and to return it to the place of purchase.
Listeria monocytogenes is a pathogenic bacteria that causes the infection listeriosis. According to ALVA, it causes a variety of symptoms in infected individuals, including fever, body aches and gastrointestinal symptoms. Severe infections may lead to complications such as meningitis or bacteremia, which may require hospitalisation. Pregnant women, immunocompromised individuals, young children and the elderly are the most at risk and should be especially aware of the symptoms. In pregnant women, the infection can be dangerous for both the mother and the foetus.
Symptoms of listeriosis may appear between three and 70 days after exposure to Listeria monocytogenes. Typically, the incubation period is one to four weeks.
ALVA advised people who have consumed a contaminated product and are experiencing symptoms to seek medical advice and disclose their exposure. Symptoms may vary from person to person and may vary in severity depending on the extent of infection.
