The Scottish Association of Luxembourg held its annual St Andrew's Reception at the residence of the British Ambassador of Luxembourg, Alice Walpole, on Friday evening.

With winter having well and truly arrived, the venue was cosy and welcoming for the 60 or so members who attended, with many in kilts and tartan. The Luxembourg Pipe Band played in the hallway, greeting guests as they arrived before moving upstairs for the reception. Danny Boland performed a number of songs to add to the festive atmosphere and the Scottish Country Dance Association added to the entertainment with a series of dancing displays.

For the formal part of the evening, Phil Taylor, President of the Scottish Association of Luxembourg, thanked Ambassador Walpole for hosting the event, with the Ambassador welcoming the association and its members. Allan Stewart told of the origin of St Andrew, one of the disciples of Jesus.

With many members adorned in kilts and other Scottish regalia, the festivities continued with Scottish food, music and dance.

St Andrew's Day falls on 30 November, with Scotland having a bank holiday that day. St. Andrew is also the patron saint of Greece, Romania, Russia, Poland and Ukraine.
