On Thursday 14 March 2024, The Irish Club of Luxembourg held a St Patrick's Celebration Dinner at the Melia Hotel in Luxembourg-Kirchberg.

Around 50 people attended the event which was compeered by ICL committee member Fiona Cuskelly who spoke both in Irish and English.

Following the playing (and singing) of both the Luxembourgish and Irish national anthems, ICL President Geoff Thompson addressed the gathering, thanking those who were involved in the event organisation and planning, referencing the 40th anniversary celebrations planned for 2025, and also the charity tombola later in the evening.

The Irish Ambassador to Luxembourg, Jean McDonald, also addressed those attending the event, thanking those working behind the scenes and recalling her childhood memories of St Patrick's Day in Ireland.

Fr Michael said grace and dinner was served: a smoked salmon starter, a beef / risotto main course and a chocolate dessert.

The seven-piece Alizeti performed a number of sets, mainly of Irish music and many to which people got up to dance; and three dancers from the Luxembourg branch of Comhaltas Ceolteoiri Eireann performed a number of soft shoe and hard shoe dances, all of which delighted those attending.

Towards the end of the evening, the tombola was held, with around 16 prizes in total, ranging from theatre, meal and flight vouchers to a watercolour and an etching, and the top prize of a Gastronomic Weekend for two at the Beim Schlass in Wiltz.

While the total raised is not yet confirmed, the organisers had hoped for €1,000 to be raised from the evening.
