The Irish Club of Luxembourg (ICL) raised a total of €3,000 at its annual Charity Ball held last Saturday at Le Sub restaurant in Luxembourg-Clausen.

Over 70 members and friends attended the event which had a Jazz theme and which started off with a reception on the 5th floor terrace, with many dressed up in 20s finery with a glass of crémant and tasty nibbles and accompanied by a series of jazz tunes, before moving down to the 4th floor restaurant for a delicious four-course meal with filet mignon of veal for the main course.

After the playing the national anthems of both Luxembourg and Ireland, the Ambassador of Ireland, Peadar Carpenter, and the ICL President, Deirdre Joyce, both addressed those attending, with the tombola drawn in two parts and raising a total of €3,000, which included a donation on the night. This amount is to be split between Novas, an Irish charity based in Limerick which works with single adults, families and children who are disadvantaged and socially excluded; primarily those who are homeless or at risk of being homeless; and Stemm vun der Strooss which was founded in 1996 and supports the homeless in Luxembourg by encouraging the social and professional integration of underprivileged and discriminated individuals.

The event also welcomed Tessa and Roger Pettinger, founding members of the Irish Club here in Luxembourg.

The event concluded with dancing to tunes played by DJ Paul Simpson until the early hours...
