On Monday 15 January 2024, the City of Luxembourg and the Union Commerciale de la Ville de Luxembourg (UCVL) announced the winners of the window decoration competition organised from 1 to 24 December 2023.

The competition aimed to contribute to the creation of a “magical atmosphere” on the occasion of the end-of-year celebrations and to reward the efforts of merchants to decorate their storefronts over the period leading up to Christmas.

The City of Luxembourg noted that around 40 businesses took part in the competition, including 15% located in the Luxembourg-Gare district and 85% located in the city centre (Ville-Haute); 85% of applications came from independent businesses, all sectors of activity combined.

After evaluating the windows according to the defined criteria (respect of the theme “A Wonderful Christmas”, overall aesthetics of the window and/or façade, originality and overall creativity, and integration of the products sold into the design) the jury designated as winners:

- 1st prize: the “Ecrin de Verdure” boutique, located at 54 rue de Strasbourg;
- 2nd prize: the “Voyages Flammang” boutique, located at 17 Boulevard Royal;
- 3rd prize: the “Le Showroom” boutique, located at 25 rue des Capucins.

The jury expressed enthusiasm at the winners’ window displays, noting that the window of a business is the first image it sends back to its customers and therefore a real tool for attracting and communicating with them.

The winners respectively won €4,000, €2,000 and €1,000, bonuses made available by the City of Luxembourg as part of this business support action aimed at creating dynamic and attractive neighbourhood life.

The jury was composed of:

- Maurice Bauer, 1st Alderman and Alderman for commerce in the City of Luxembourg;
- Dr Sebastian Reddeker, CEO Luxembourg for Tourism GIE;
- Léa Schroeder, Designer Luxembourg;
- Joséphine Pinton, merchandiser specialising in window displays;
- Lucie Ngongo, General Delegate of the National Federation of French Window Displays (FNCV).
