The 22nd edition of the 1000 km Hesper charity race will take place in Hesperange on Sunday 9 July 2023.

As every year, the organising committee of Laftreff Hesper asbl and the municipality of Hesperange will donate the entire amount raised from registrations to Handicap International Luxembourg.

The aim of the race is to get as many runners as possible to cover a total of at least 1,000 km. The record to beat is 8,850 kilometres.

Those wishing to participate in the race should gather at Centre Nicolas Braun (next to the town hall) in Hesperange on 9 July, any time between 08:00 and 12:00. The route is 2 km long but participants are free to run as many laps as they wish.

The minimum registration fee is €8, payable to the Comité Laftreff Hesper via bank transfer or on the day of the race: IBAN LU97 1111 1712 4237 0000. Registration costs €8 per adult and €3 per child.

During the race, Handicap International members, joined by volunteers, will raise awareness among participants and visitors. There will also be awareness-raising activities at the Handicap International stand, including an obstacle course with a prosthesis and a sight-impairing mask.

"We've developed the concept of online fundraising to add a little extra spice to the race," explained Anaïs Bourgois, Relationship Marketing Manager for Handicap International Luxembourg. "In addition to the number of kilometres run, everyone can easily set up an online fundraising campaign as a token of an additional goal. In this way, every athlete can get the support of their family, friends and colleagues by setting themselves a solidarity target."

The 2022 event attracted several hundred participants and raised €6,500 to support Handicap International Luxembourg's projects around the world.
