Luxembourg has welcomed the European Commission's organisation of a European round table on Dieselgate, to be held on 27 November 2018 in Brussels.

In a letter dated 3 October 2018, Luxembourg Minister of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure François Bausch and Environment Minister Carole Dieschbourg urged the European Commission to commit to a coordinated approach at European level on political and technical solutions to Dieselgate. The ministers felt that "only concerted action at European level would allow equal treatment of all consumers and avoid possible distortions within the internal market. It would also be the only approach to making substantial progress on our climate and air quality goals."

In this context, the European Commission today reacted by announcing in an official letter to the Luxembourg Government that it will organise a ministerial round table on Dieselgate next month. As part of this roundtable, the European Commission will take stock of the initiatives taken so far and address outstanding technical and political issues. In addition, it will discuss solutions and recall rates for cars affected by Dieselgate, as well as the adaptation of the control stations to better detect increasingly sophisticated fraudulent methods in the area of car emissions.

Ministers François Bausch and Carole Dieschbourg welcomed this initiative.
