Following the success of its first season, “Take Off – Science Challenge Show” the André Losch Fondation and the Luxembourg National Research Fund (Fonds National de la Recherche - FNR) have announced the opening of the casting for the show’s second season.

Candidates can submit their application starting this Sunday 14 April 2024, on the website www.takeoffshow.lu.

“Take Off – Science Challenge Show” will air its final episode on Sunday 28 April 2024. The show is a crossmedia programme consisting of thirteen episodes, broadcasted both online and on television, featuring a competition among twelve candidates aged fifteen to 21. The young talents first compete in teams to solve stimulating scientific challenges before proceeding to individual challenges, with a grand prize of €10,000 for the winner.

Supported by André Losch Fondation and the FNR, the Take Off initiative aims at encouraging youth and families to develop interest in science by promoting role models with whom they can identify. This project aims to enhance the image of young individuals, representing the diversity of Luxembourg, and showcase their talents and potential.

Beyond the show, "Take Off" produces educational content for secondary school teachers:

  • explanatory videos of scientific challenges from the show to guide teachers who want to replicate the challenges with their students (the videos are available on the website www.takeoffshow.lu and on the YouTube page @takeoffshow_lu.);
  • the videos are accompanied by more in depth articles on science.lu;
  • in-person trainings for teachers held by the science coaches (Lucie and Joseph, FNR).

The project also involves the creation of kits for students to conduct experiments, which are currently being developed in collaboration with the Service de coordination de la recherche et de l’innovation pédagogiques et technologiques (SCRIPT), a national service driving educational development and innovation in Luxembourg.
