Lidl is opening two new stores in Foetz and Huldange and renovating its Differdange store.

The supermarket chain is continuing its expansion in the Grand Duchy with the opening of two new stores and the transformation of the Differdange supermarket by 2020. Some 80 new jobs will be created from this €32 million investment.

Julien Wathieu, spokesman for Lidl Luxembourg, commented: "By 2020, we will open three new points of sale: the largest Luxembourg store in Foetz, a brand new branch in Huldange and a brand new supermarket [...] in Differdange. These projects are part of Lidl's growth strategy in Luxembourg."

Indeed, the Foetz store will be Lidl's 10th and largest branch in the Grand Duchy. Lidl has already proceeded to transform the former Opel garage on Rue du Brill into its new store. Spread across 1704m2, the layout of the largest Lidl store in Luxembourg claims to feature a clear commercial presentation, easy product identification, optimised circulation until check-in and a 149-space car park. In addition to generating 40 new jobs, the store integrates various sustainable technologies, namely electric charging stations for cars and bicycles (free), 880 solar panels, permanent monitoring of the energy consumption of the store and large insulation of glass windows. The Foetz store opened today, on 20 February 2019.

In Differdange, the brand will undertake work to double the sales area of its store. Located on Rue de Soleuvre, the supermarket will be completely demolished and rebuilt. The sales area will be enlarged following an improvement in the configuration of the interior space and the acquisition of neighbouring land. Thus, the store will go from 650m² to 1486m². The new car park will have 133 places. Work will begin in spring 2019 and the reopening is scheduled for the last quarter of 2020. A temporary store will accommodate customers throughout the duration of the work. The supermarket will be equipped with 257 solar panels and charging stations for cars and bicycles.

In Huldange, the 11th Luxembourg Lidl will have an area of 1416m² and 90 parking spaces. Work will begin in the spring of 2019 with the ambition to open the store by January 2020. The supermarket will similarly incorporate various sustainable features such as 132 solar panels and charging stations for cars and bicycles.
