A total of 226 applications for international protection were received in Luxembourg last month.

January 2019 saw the submission of 226 applications for asylum to the Luxembourg Department of Immigration. On the one hand, this represents a slight decrease compared to the number of applications received in December (272) and November (234) last year. On the other hand, it represents a significant increase from the 175 applications received in January 2018.

The majority of the asylum applications last month came from people leaving Eritrea (81), followed by Iraq (16) and Syria (14). Applications came mainly from the continents of Europe, Asia and Africa with just one originating in Venezuela.
