The Luxembourg Police has launched a national road safety campaign "SUMMER 2018" from Saturday 14 July to Sunday 2 September.

The summer holidays are a high risk period for road users. Distractions, alcohol, drugs, tiredness and speeding remain the main causes of accidents during the summer months. However accidents can also result from technical defects, or even tyre problems related to overloaded vehicles.

Motorcyclists are by far the most at risk group of road users in accident statistics. Since the beginning of the year, Luxembourg Police has already recorded eight motorcyclist deaths.

They are therefore releasing the following general road safety guidelines for motorcyclists. These include moderating their speed, increasing their braking preparation time, not relying on having priority, expecting other road users to make mistakes and always taking an extra look in their rear view mirror. A view from the side is not enough, motorcyclists should turn their heads completely to get a complete overview of the situation.

Between 23-29 July 2018, the European Traffic Police Network (TISPOL) is also launching a European "Truck & Bus" campaign which focuses on respecting the legislation in relation to the professional transport of goods and passengers, adhering to correct technical conditions of vehicles and combatting cross-border crime (drug trafficking, human trafficking, organized crime, etc.).
