On Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8 May 2025, Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Xavier Bettel, travelled to Warsaw, Poland to participate in the informal "Gymnich" meeting of European Union (EU) foreign ministers.

As reported by Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, the EU ministers were joined on the first day by their British counterpart, David Lammy, for an informal discussion on key international issues.

The second day was devoted to Russian aggression against Ukraine, with a particular focus on the role the EU must play in supporting a just and lasting peace in the country. Discussions also focused on continued EU military and financial support for Ukraine, as well as strengthening European defence capabilities. The ministers also discussed EU-US relations, particularly with regard to foreign policy issues.

Moreover, the EU ministers held an informal exchange with their counterparts from EU candidate and potential candidate countries, which focused on hybrid campaigns and foreign interference, as well as current political dynamics in the Balkans.
