On Friday 23 May 2025, Luxembourg's Minister of Defence, and the Minister of Mobility and Public Works, Yuriko Backes, paid a working visit to Sweden.
In Stockholm, Minister Backes was received with military honours by Sweden's Minister of Defence, Pål Jonson. The ministers discussed, among other things, the NATO Summit scheduled for The Hague in June 2025, the need to increase defence efforts to enhance our military capabilities, and the urgent need for greater ambition at the European Union level. They also discussed the "Women, Peace, and Security" agenda, military recruitment and the Swedish concept of "Total Defence."
Minister Backes visited the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency and the Swedish Military Procurement Administration.
In her capacity as Minister of Mobility and Public Works, Minister Backes held a bilateral meeting with Andreas Carlson, Sweden's Minister of Infrastructure and Housing. The ministers exchanged views on the importance of military mobility for defence readiness, as well as synergies between the infrastructure, mobility and defence sectors.
