The Maison du Grand-Duc has announced that Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg will attend an official commemorative ceremony honouring the victims of the Crans-Montana tragedy in Valais, Switzerland on Friday 9 January 2026.

Organised by the President of the Swiss Confederation and the President of the State Council of the Canton of Valais, the ceremony will pay tribute to the victims of the incident that occurred on 1 January 2026 in the Crans-Montana ski resort in Switzerland.

Luxembourg will be represented by Grand Duke Henri, former Head of State, who will convey a message of solidarity with the young victims, their families and the Swiss people.

Already on 1 January, Grand Duke Guillaume, Henri’s son and current Head of State, issued a condolence message on behalf of the Grand Ducal family to the Swiss President, in which he said: “In these hours of great sadness, on behalf of the Luxembourg people and in our own name, we extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims, as well as our heartfelt thoughts to those injured.”

As previously reported, Luxembourg Air Rescue was involved in an evacuation operation, rescuing two patients following the fire in Crans-Montana.
