EDF, the operator of the Cattenom nuclear power plant across the border in France, has reported that Reactor 4 is currently offline as part of its scheduled maintenance programme.

During the night of Friday 30 to Saturday 31 January 2025, production unit no. 4 of the power plant was disconnected from the national electricity distribution grid.

EDF said the scheduled outage will allow for the replacement of one-third of the fuel in the reactor and the completion of numerous inspection and maintenance operations.

More than 12,000 activities are planned, including the replacement of the alternator rotor and the performance of numerous hydraulic tests on the main secondary circuit. In addition, more than 40 modifications will be carried out on the installation, further strengthening the reactor’s safety level.

Production units no. 1, 2 and 3 are currently in operation and supplying the electricity grid.
