On the occasion of World NGO Day on Friday 27 February 2026, Luxembourg's Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, Xavier Bettel, brought together thirteen Luxembourgish non-governmental development organisations (NGDOs) to launch thirteen projects in the Global South and to renew framework agreements concluded with two NGOs.
According to Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, these initiatives will benefit from financial support from Luxembourg's Development Cooperation and will be implemented in eighteen countries: South Africa, Bangladesh, Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Guinea, Haiti, India, Malawi, Niger, Rwanda, Central African Republic, Senegal and Togo.
At the event, Minister Bettel praised the commitment of NGOs, emphasising that their actions play a vital role in promoting sustainable and inclusive development, working closely with local communities. He stated: "In a context of weakening international solidarity, the commitment of NGOs remains essential: key partners in Luxembourg Cooperation, they are an indispensable pillar."
The thirteen Luxembourg NGOs supported are: Aide au Bénin, Îles de Paix Luxembourg, Les Amis du Tibet Luxembourg, Coopération Nord-Sud, Christian Solidarity International, Entwécklung duerch gerechten Handel, Fondation Dr Elvire Engel, Lëtzebuerger Landjugend a Jongbaueren Service Coopération asbl, Fondation Juniclair, Kindernothilfe Luxembourg, Objectif Tiers Monde, Regards des Enfants d'Éthiopie and Terre des Hommes Luxembourg.
The two framework agreement renewals were signed with the Fondation Raoul Follereau et Guiden a Scouten fir eng Welt.
