On Monday 29 June 2026, Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Xavier Bettel, travelled to London for a working visit to the United Kingdom (UK).

According to Luxembourg’s Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, during the visit, Minister Bettel met with the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Secretary, Yvette Cooper, to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries.

The discussions covered the “strong” economic, financial and technological cooperation between Luxembourg and the UK, as well as opportunities to strengthen collaboration in the space sector, noted the ministry.

The ministers also exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East, its impact on maritime security and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and the need to reinforce support for Ukraine in the face of Russia's aggression.

The ministry said that against the backdrop of an increasingly unstable geopolitical environment, Minister Bettel also stressed the importance of strengthening defence cooperation among NATO allies.

During his visit, Xavier Bettel also met with the UK's Minister for the Cabinet Office responsible for the Constitution and European Union (EU) Relations, Nick Thomas-Symonds. Discussing UK-EU relations, Xavier Bettel welcomed the positive momentum between the two sides and underlined the importance of continuing progress towards a closer partnership, particularly in the areas of youth and student mobility.
