From Wednesday 1 to Thursday 2 July 2026, Luxembourg's Minister of Finance, Gilles Roth, visited London, England as part of a financial mission organised in cooperation with Luxembourg for Finance (LFF), where he met senior United Kingdom (UK) government and financial sector representatives to discuss closer cooperation.

According to Luxembourg's Ministry of Finance, during the visit, Minister Roth held a meeting with his British counterpart, Rachel Reeves, at 11 Downing Street, where the two ministers highlighted the strong ties between the Luxembourg and UK financial centres and discussed opportunities to further strengthen cooperation, particularly in promoting cross-border investment.

The ministry noted that the European Union (EU) and the UK face common challenges, including financing the digital and green transitions and increasing defence spending. It added that London and Luxembourg, considered as leading international financial centres,  can play an essential role in mobilising the private capital needed to address these challenges.

During his visit, Minister Roth delivered a speech at the Association of the Luxembourg Fund Industry (ALFI) conference in London, which brought together around 1,000 fund industry professionals. He also met representatives of the insurance and reinsurance sectors during a working lunch organised by LFF.

In addition, Minister Roth held several meetings with senior representatives of the British financial sector to discuss the prospects for developing their activities in Luxembourg and developments in the international financial market. He commented: "Luxembourg and the United Kingdom have long maintained close ties, based on genuine complementarity in the financial sector. Luxembourg is now the United Kingdom's leading market in Europe for the export of financial services. Together, we can create new opportunities for growth, foster innovation and contribute to Europe's competitiveness. Ten years after the Brexit referendum, it is more important than ever to continue strengthening this strategic partnership. For the benefit of our citizens."
