Luxembourg Legacy recently concluded a ten-day visit to the Grand Duchy, from 15 to 24 June 2026, bringing together a group of twenty participants, including three who were returning for a second tour.

Centred around Luxembourg's National Day celebrations, the programme combined genealogy, heritage and cultural visits with the official festivities, offering participants the opportunity to explore their family roots while experiencing some of the country's most important national traditions.

During their stay, Travis Gross, leader of the Luxembourg Legacy tour, accompanied the group on visits to a number of sites across Luxembourg and neighbouring Germany. During a reception at Luxembourg City Hall, participants were welcomed by Luxembourg City's First Alderman, Maurice Bauer.

The tour itinerary included:

  • the Bierger Center and Passport Office;
  • Luxembourg City Hall;
  • the Luxembourg City Museum;
  • the Luxembourg American Cemetery and a wreath laying;
  • the Schumannseck Memorial Trail;
  • Musée Dräi Eechelen;
  • the University of Luxembourg in Belval;
  • Vianden Castle;
  • The Family of Man exhibition in Clervaux;
  • Schengen;
  • Trier, Germany, and the Roman heritage of the region;
  • genealogy sessions and ancestral village visits;
  • a Friends and Family reception organised with the Roots and Leaves Association.

The visit also coincided with Luxembourg's National Day celebrations. Participants attended the changing of the guard at the Grand Ducal Palace, the National Day Eve torchlight procession and fireworks display, the military parade and the Te Deum service at Notre-Dame Cathedral.

"We had another great tour with the addition of enjoying the National Day festivities. The music, food, parade, fireworks and Te Deum are memories our tour friends will cherish forever," said Travis Gross.

During the visit, Travis Gross was also received by Grand Duke Guillaume.

"It was an honour and a privilege to have been received by His Royal Highness Grand Duke Guillaume. Discussing the future of Luxembourg, LACS and the relationship between the United States and Luxembourg was amazing and insightful. I will never forget this opportunity and will carry this moment with me forever," he said.

Travis Gross added: "My friends in The States refused to believe I was being received by the Grand Duke; they believe me now."

He also highlighted the cooperation between the Luxembourg American Cultural Society (LACS) and the Roots and Leaves Association.

"LACS is honoured to work with the Roots and Leaves Association in developing and bringing our exclusive tours to our members and friends. We get to experience access to sites and people that make our tours one-of-a-kind and will provide memories and stories that will last a lifetime," Travis Gross said.

LACS is now preparing for its 40th Luxembourg Fest, which will take place in August 2026, bringing together members of the Luxembourg-American community to celebrate their shared heritage.
