The Maison du Grand-Duc has announced that Grand Duke Guillaume will undertake a working visit to New York from Sunday 20 to Wednesday 23 September 2026 on the occasion of the high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA81).

The Head of State will be accompanied by Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs Xavier Bettel.

On Tuesday 22 September 2026, Grand Duke Guillaume will address the United Nations General Assembly as part of the General Debate bringing together Heads of State and Government. On this occasion, the Head of State will present Luxembourg's positions and priorities on major international issues.

During his stay in New York, the Grand Duke will also meet United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres. Several bilateral meetings with Heads of State are also planned. Deputy Prime Minister Xavier Bettel will accompany the Grand Duke during these meetings.

According to the Maison du Grand-Duc, the programme will also include a meeting with members of the Luxembourgish community living in the United States.

Finally, Grand Duke Guillaume will visit the 9/11 Memorial, where he will lay a wreath in tribute to the victims of the attacks of 11 September 2001, whose 25th anniversary is being commemorated this year.
