On Tuesday 22 September 2026, the Maison du Grand-Duc announced that Grand Duke Guillaume and Grand Duchess Stéphanie will visit Metz (France) Monday 28 September on the occasion of the visit of Pope Leo XIV to France.
According to the Maison du Grand-Duc, Grand Duke Guillaume will be welcomed at the Metz Convention Centre by the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron. The Head of State will attend the meeting “At the Roots of Europe for Peace and Unity”, during which the Pope Leo XIV will deliver a speech.
The Maison du Grand-Duc said the meeting will also provide an opportunity to pay tribute to the memory of Robert Schuman, one of the founding fathers of European integration.
In the afternoon, Grand Duchess Stéphanie will join Grand Duke Guillaume in Metz and the Grand Ducal couple will then travel together to Metz Cathedral, where they will attend Mass celebrated by Pope Leo XIV.
