The Grand Ducal Police have reported that, on the morning of Saturday 8 January 2022, an incident happened at the Socio-Educational Centre in Dreiborn (institute for young offenders), resulting in two people being moved to the penal institution (prison) in Schrassig.
As a group of six young people vehemently refused to go to their cells, staff at the Dreiborn institute contacted the police at around 10:30.
Police officers and CGDIS vehicles rushed to the Dreiborn facility; when they tried to mediate with the residents to get them go to their rooms, they were uncooperative. When the officers tried to bring the group to their rooms, they attacked the police officers and employees of the institution by first throwing various objects at them and later being physical. A total of three police officers were injured in the process.
Eventually, the police managed to get the group of young people under control and into the cells. By order of the public prosecutor's office, two young people were taken to the prison in Schrassig.
In addition to the three injured police officers, four employees of the institution and three young people were brought to hospital. There was considerable material damage to property.
