The Grand Ducal Police have reported a number of incidents that took place at various locations across Luxembourg over the past weekend involving theft by force and by deception (scam).
On Sunday afternoon a member of the public was robbed in Leudelange. The incident happened at around 14:00 when they were on the terrace of a bar; three men stole his mobile phone and wallet under a false pretext before fleeing in a car.
The police were contacted and immediately launched a search for the vehicle and were able to stop it as a result of a chase at the Dudelange roundabout near the A13 motorway. The public prosecutor ordered the arrest of the three men.
On Saturday evening in Luxembourg City, a young man was the victim of a theft through threats. He was on Boulevard Jean Ulveling when a stranger approached him and asked for a cigarette. When he said no, the stranger threatened him. After the victim handed him his wallet and jewellery, the perpetrator fled. The police could not find the perpetrator.
On Saturday, a member of the public filed a complaint with the police in Luxembourg after being the victim of a scam. Unknown perpetrators pretended to be LuxTrust employees on the phone and asked the victim to give the token number. Following this, the victim found that a four-digit sum of money was debited from his account. The police are investigating the matter.
Also on Saturday afternoon, a man rang the doorbell of an elderly person in Limpertsberg, claiming to be her grandson. The man managed to get inside the house under this pretext. However, the victim quickly noticed that it was not the grandson, whereupon the stranger stated that he was there to do work in the house. When the resident evicted the intruder from the house, they took the victim's wallet. The police started a search but could not find the intruder.
Meanwhile, on the terrace of a bar in Bettembourg on Saturday evening, a customer was approached by two young people. They showed him a piece of paper and used it to cover the man's mobile phone, which was on the table. When the two left the terrace, the victim realised that his mobile phone had been stolen. The police were contacted but the subsequent search for the thieves was unsuccessful.
And in Colmar, late on Saturday afternoon, the police at the train station were notified of a violent theft. According to initial information, a group of eight youths attacked a man and suffered several blows to the head. The perpetrators then took the victim's smartphone, glasses and shoes. The man suffered minor injuries. The police noted the details but could not find the perpetrators.
In Esch-Belval on Friday, a man in Belval was the victim of a theft by force at a bus stop on the Route d'Esch. According to initial information received by the police, an assailant held a knife to the victim's back and stole a bag and a chain. The perpetrator then fled in the direction of Chemin Rouge on a black electric scooter.
The perpetrator was described as being of slim build and about 1.70m tall and around 35 years old; he was wearing a black tracksuit with black t-shirt, a grey cap and white shoes.
